Another Re-Run: Mises on Socialism

I couldn't resist a rerun from a post from last Summer:

Ludwig von Mises: "Socialism... is not the pioneer of a better and finer world, but the spoiler of what thousands of years of civilization have created. It does not build; it destroys. For destruction is the essence of it. It produces nothing, it only consumes what the social order based on private ownership in the means of production has created." - Socialism

We need more information about what is meant by "socialism" and why its opponents are so vehement in their opposition. Sorry I can't provide that right at the moment. Stay tuned.

  1. I have tried to communicate the evils of socialism, yet I have fallen far short. I believe that economists such as Hazlett and Bastiat explained the problems and issues for their generations, with mixed results. Present day Americans do not understand. Even conservatives, who seem to understand instinctively, have a hard time explaining why and how economies function. When I hear the socialist views presented on public radio and TV, I wonder why the 'free market' economists, such as those at the Von Mises Institute, do not publicly demand equal time.
